BAHAMAS MARINE FORECAST FOR TODAY MONDAY 2nd               SEPTEMBER 2019 ISSUED BY THE BAHAMAS DEPARTMENT OF METEOROLOGY.

WARNINGS: A HURRICANE WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR PORTIONS OF THE NORTHWEST BAHAMAS WHICH INCLUDES NORTH ELEUTHERA, ABACO, GRAND BAHAMA, BIMINI, THE BERRY ISLANDS AND NEW PROVIDENCE. A HURRICANE WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR ANDROS ISLAND.

GENERAL SITUATIONS:HURRICANE DORIAN, A CATASTROPHIC CATEGORY 5 HURRICANE WITH MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS OF 180 MILES PER HOUR WILL CONTINUE ITS SLOW WESTWARD TRACK INFLICTING HURRICANE AND TROPICAL STORM FORCE CONDITIONS ACROSS THE EXTREME NORTHERN BAHAMAS WHILE EXTREME OUTER BANDS AFFECT THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS TONIGHT THROUGH TODAY.

NORTHWEST & CENTRAL BAHAMAS

WEATHER: HURRICANE CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED IN ABACO AND GRAND BAHAMA TODAY. TROPICAL STORM CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED TO PERSIST IN ELEUTHERA, THE BERRY ISLANDS, BIMINI, NORTH ANDROS AND NEW PROVIDENCE TODAY. THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS CAN EXPECT SCATTERED SHOWERS AND ISOLATED THUNDERSTORMS… SHOWERS MAY BE HEAVY AND THUNDERSTORMS STRONG TO SEVERE AT TIMES. RESIDENTS SHOULD BE ALERT FOR WATERSPOUT AND TORNADIC ACTIVITY.

ADVISORY: BOATERS ARE TO REMAIN IN PORT.

WINDS:                HURRICANE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO CONTINUE IN ABACO AND GRAND BAHAMA FOR MUCH OF TODAY. TROPICAL STORM WINDS IMPACT NORTH ELEUTHERA, THE BERRY ISLANDS ANDROS, BIMINI AND NEW PROVIDENCE. FOR THE CENTRAL BAHAMAS, WINDS WILL BE SOUTHWEST TO WEST AT 20 TO 30 KNOTS WITH GUSTS TO GALE FORCE.

SEAS:     EXPECT SEAS ABOVE 20 FEET IN SWELLS AND SURGES IN ABACO AND GRAND BAHAMA. ELSEWHERE, SEAS WILL BE 8 TO 12 FEET, BUT UP TO 16 FEET IN MODERATE TO LARGE SWELLS.

WEATHER: VARIABLY CLOUDY AND WARM WITH ISOLATED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS TODAY.

ADVISORY: SMALL CRAFT OPERATORS SHOULD NOT VENTURE FAR FROM PORT.

WINDS:                EAST TO SOUTHEAST AT 10 TO 15 KNOTS, GUSTY AT TIMES.

SEAS: 2 TO 4 FEET OVER THE OCEAN, HIGHER IN GUSTS AND MODERATE EASTERLY SWELLS.

TROPICAL WEATHER:PLEASE SEE THE LATEST ALERT FOR HURRICANE DORIAN…HURRICANE DORIAN IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE SLOWLY DRIFTING WESTWARDS AS IT LINGERS OVER ABACO AND GRAND BAHAMA THROUGH THE TODAY. HURRICANE FORCE WINDS TO PERSIST OVER THESE ISLANDS DURING THE PERIOD. THE INTENSITY OF DORIAN IS EXPECTED TO FLUCTUATE DURING ITS PASSAGE. HOWEVER, DORIAN WILL REMAIN AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS HURRICANE. ELSEWHERE, EXPECT SCATTERED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS THROUGHOUT THE ISLANDS OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS.

ELSEWHERE

1) A BROAD AREA OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED NEAR CABO VERDE ISLANDS HAS AN 80% CHANCE OF FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT 5DAYS.

2) ANOTHER AREA OF BROAD LOW PRESSURE OVER THE SOUTH-CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO CONTINUES TO PRODUE WIDESPREAD DISORGANIZED SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS AND IS MOVING SLOWLY TOWARDS THE COAST OF MEXICO. THIS SYSTEM HAS A 40% CHANCE OF CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT 5 DAYS.

3) A TROUGH OF LOW PRESSURE LOCATED SEVERAL HUNDRED MILES SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF BERMUDA HAS A 30 PERCENT CHANCE OF TROPICAL CYCLONE FORMATION THROUGH THE NEXT 5 DAYS.
